Two limits are worth knowing before you start. A trial line plays on one screen at a time: you can install it on the bedroom TV and the living-room Firestick, but only one of them can stream at once. And trials are one per household, so pick your moment.

Six checks, one evening. Write the results down as you go; by the end of the day they make the decision for you.

Use the device you will keep
Test on the Firestick or TV in the room where you actually watch, over the same Wi-Fi or cable. A phone on the sofa says nothing about the living-room TV at the far end of the house.

Search for your own channels
Ignore the headline number. Look up the ten or twenty channels you really watch, from local news and your league to the kids' channels and the ones from home, and open every one.

Watch through the evening peak
Any server looks fine at 11 a.m. Leave a live sports channel running for half an hour between 7 and 11 p.m. your time, ideally during a big game, and count freezes rather than the first second of loading.

Check 4K honestly
Open a 4K channel or film on a 4K screen. You need a 4K-capable device and around 35 Mbps of steady bandwidth; on 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi, try a cable or 5 GHz before you judge the picture. The 4K speed guide has the numbers.

Try each room, one at a time

The line stops working and that is the end of it. Nothing is charged, there is no subscription to cancel, and nobody chases you. If the trial worked on your setup, choose a plan on the pricing page and order it on WhatsApp. Your app and settings stay as they are; you only enter the new login. Activation usually takes about 15 minutes.

6 time zonesCanada spans six time zones, including Newfoundland's half-hour offset, so set the guide offset yourself rather than trusting the app's default. Test the NHL and CFL games you follow, Canadian news and, in Quebec, your French-language channels.
